Our Founder
Hey there! I’m Amy L. Cannon, the founder of Emotionally Mature. My journey on this emotional intelligence trail had an unlikely start – on a farm in Brandon, Mississippi. Those early days taught me the value of hard work, perseverance, and yes, dealing with some pretty stubborn livestock (turns out, that’s great practice for navigating human emotions)! My passion for understanding the human heart and mind led me to pursue higher education in theology. I hold a Master of Theological Studies degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University (SMU), and I’m currently working towards a Doctorate in Ministry at SMU. This blend of spiritual insight and academic rigor has deeply informed my approach to emotional intelligence…..I’m also a Registered Nurse, sooo I guess that’s a great recipe for understanding the human heart.
But let’s be real – Jesus Christ and life have been my greatest teachers. I’ve had my share of triumphs and face-plants, good decisions and “what was I thinking?” moments. Each experience, whether delightful or cringe-worthy, has added another layer to my understanding of emotional maturity.
Today, I’m on a mission to help others navigate their emotional landscapes with grace, humor, and wisdom. Through our 30-Day Emotional Maturity Journal and apparel line, I’m translating complex emotional concepts into practical, everyday tools. When I’m not geeking out over emotional intelligence research or writing journal prompts, you can find me gardening or…..sleeping. It’s important to remember, we’re all works in progress.
